Dear Kevin Lindsay,

This is the face you have chosen for your Anchorage School District homepage.  The page where you introduce yourself to parents.

My child told me of how you were physically and verbally aggressive toward the students in her class.  Slamming your fist on the table, yelling at them.

And when you were not doing those things, you were ignoring the class by talking on your cell phone and messing around on your computer.

This is how teachers at Wendler Middle School present themselves?  I don’t see the humor after listening to my child describe your class.

I have requested in writing that you stay away from my child and that was not honored.

Kevin Lindsay, you are the face of Wendler teachers to me.  You represent an unsafe environment and the continuation of children not being protected from aggressive teachers.  And my tax dollars are paying for this.

falsification to create a record swollen.

Sexual attack at Rogers Park Elementary

Have we ever talked about that attack?

Let’s begin.

One day parents were panicked,

the newspaper loaded with the news

Oh, we didn’t want to hear it.

This District is all about the right to choose.

A child had been sexually attacked by another,

in the bathroom,

in a grade school.

Oh dear!

Where did it happen, were our schools really safe?

Oh, it happened somewhere else?

so comforting the threat wasn’t near.

*

Cover up where it happened,

Ms Comeau needed  to keep a clean space.

Keep it a secret, don’t  tell anyone,

on the orders of the District’s attorney

while speaking directly to our face.

A meeting soon was happening on the orders of the Board,

between us and Ms Comeau

where the atmosphere was charged and holding in overload.

“We shouldn’t have to move from Bayshore to get our kids to a school which is safe.”

All the while Ms Comeau sat there knowing the sexual attack had just happened

in our newly chosen place.

The teacher who didn’t  know where those children were to be

was not removed, and was never named

But, the principal’s head did roll.

the incompetence covered up, so that parents wouldn’t ever really know.

A name which might be recognized and upset the public sport.

accountability, the order is extremely tall,

but we know here in Anchorage

a five-year old

is not as important as winning a season of … football.

They didn’t,

and that’s the problem…

of which Ms Comeau demanded to be hid.

The Code of Ethics, it should mean a great deal.

Ms Comeau didn’t follow them,

and I wrote it down, turned it in, documented it…

for real.

Where did all of those records go?

Those statements,

those emails?

What file 13 in which someone was ordered

in which to throw?

I really think these Anchorage School District leaders

should hold themselves up high,

and pronounce a new beginning

so employees aren’t ordered to lie.

Hello Sherry,

I am sorry, I could not quite catch your last name on the message machine.

I am not dealing with a law firm unless there is litigation.

I am sorry if there is any confusion.  All of the information I have requested should be available in administrator desk files, electronic conversations, notes and IT information over the past two years, through ASD.  I am sure ASD has the clerical services to copy the information. I sent a check for $999.30 as demanded by Ms Comeau.  I cannot imaging that would even pay for two hours with your firm.

I have had numerous conversations over the past 2.5 year with ASD employees on concerns such as our children being hit by a teacher at Bayshore and Carol Comeau telling my husband and myself that she received my letter about the hitting and chose to ignore it.  We have also spoken (via email) in regards to Ms Comeau’s cover-up of the sexual assault at Rogers Park, where we moved to get away from the abusive staff at Bayshore.  Of course, that negligent teacher was not removed from the classroom and children were not safe in that school, even though people in my community cannot even vote without being recorded by ASD.

We’ve had interesting discussions on the probable embezzlement of PTSA funds by Wendler staff as well as a Wendler teacher being drunk during the school day and putting the children in jeopardy.  The Wendler PTSA was going to bring forward the issue of Title I fraud (with no compacts written) as well as the discrimination of our families of color, but it was shut down before we could gather our families together to see what issues for which parents wanted to advocate, such as the fact that the cafeteria manager routinely took food from the children.  Also, the topic of children not having access to food at East has come up in our community.

I would imagine all the information I have requested should at least be a banker’s box in volume.  The teacher email conversations alone will take up a significant amount of space.  There were numerous emails in regards to the Wendler teacher showing movies with female frontal nudity, as well as the fact that children were ostracized at Wendler if a parent complained.

I will wait until I hear from ASD in regards to the information to be provided, since that is to whom I wrote the check and requested the information.  I have also requested the same information from APD for all of the communication between ASD and APD in regards to myself.  I am waiting to get the police report and tape recording also.

I do find it interesting that during open ASD budget meetings two years ago, my question was how many millions ASD has paid Jermain Dunnagan & Owens over the previous five years.  I could not get a response from the ASD School Board or even after I contacted my Assembly representative.

I’m sorry.  I did mean to add that I specifically asked Ms Comeau to show care in the spending of the funds I provided.

When, as a teacher within ASD, I was ordered to falsify special education documents at Whaley for a State audit, ASD had certified teachers inputting data instead of less expensive temps.

A law firm must be very expensive, compared to a clerical person working the copy machine.  Or even the IT staff.

Hi Sherry,

I did receive your phone message today.  I am sorry to hear that you have been ordered by ASD (whomever that is) not to use emails.  My husband does that billable time thing, and I can’t imagine him allowing a client to dictate to him how to run his business.

I have not engaged your firm.  Please communicate with whomever engaged you.

All of the information I have requested from ASD, such as Carol Comeau cc’ing Mr. Trickey on emails to me last year is available on the ASD server.  Also, the notes ASD Administrators made during any face to face, phone or electronic conversations with your firm will be available through ASD.

I do know that ASD Administrators keep track of all that type of thing through daily work records and desk files.  When parents at Rogers Park met after the sexual assault and were questioning Ms Stewart on ASD’s actions, an ASD administrator stood up, pointed her finger at Ms Stewart and stated, “You know what the attorney told you to say.”  I’m sure Ms Stewart wrote that down somewhere so she could remember.

To Whom It May Concern;

I am not going accept letters from your firm.  I have turned away the letter from the delivery service, and have now put two letters back into the mail-unopened.  I will continue to send back anything sent to my address–unopened.

I see no reason to deal with a firm which I have not engaged. No one from ASD has contacted me in regards to the need for your firm’s involvement.

After being fired from ASD for refusing to falsify documents which brought State and Federal funds into ASD, our family needed to spend our cash savings on major surgery for my husband.  Our family also qualified for reduced lunches last year and will probably qualify again this year.

I certainly cannot afford an attorney and cannot see why ASD is spending tax dollars for this when tax payers are continually told there is not enough money in the district.

It would appear that this is much like when Mr. Owens sat in a due process meeting with my husband and myself and it felt like ASD only had him present to try and intimidate parents.

is how a teacher now talks to kids?

Longer class periods.  Just sit and do nothing,

Is what gets reported to home, and

I am ready to flip my lid.

History teacher–puts in lecture videos,

Rewrite Shakespeare, didn’t he do it well enough?

No newsletters, no school improvement plans,

Sounds like to survive this school one must really be tough.

I didn’t get paid much, but

Oh, silly me.

I thought I was hired to do a good job,

Was it wasted effort, was there ever a point?

I don’t know–can anyone ever really see?

Now there is a little school tucked away, but

only white kids tend to be chosen to apply.

Did you qualify– are you good enough?

If parents were told, the school would only repeatedly deny.

The Superintendent says, “We must have cops!”

So really, these schools, you know they can’t be safe.

What message is sent

What errand to run, what is left

behind in that wake?

Effort forward, time always spent

trying to create anew.

Cold, tired and hungry.

Constant energy, only were hopes

Dear Kim,

When I went to school, we did not have Title IX.   I was so glad to think you would get some different opportunities to develop a healthy mind and body.

Imagine my surprise to find out there are no PE standards or curriculum for middle school in the Anchorage School District.  When your dad and I met with Ms Bingham, she told us they did not grade you on how many laps you ran.  She sat there and lied to us.  I have spoken with other parents who have complained about the children being graded on running laps, yet nothing ever happened to change the situation.

When Ms Bingham lied, it was a reflection on her character.  Not yours.  What she was really doing was telling me I shouldn’t believe my child.  Children should not be in a classroom with a teacher lies, so I pulled you from PE at Wendler.

What a shame that children in the Anchorage School District are denied the opportunity to explore and learn lifelong activity skills unless they have a good teacher.  You didn’t get one and I am sorry.

December 15, 2003 and it’s already the second complaint about Ben Hardwick

and here is what I attached to the form.  And the response from ASD was pure BS.

And when questioned about the teacher who would dump the student’s desks on the floor, Carol Comeau stated it was just a misunderstanding–that the teacher sat on a corner of the desk and it tipped over.  Jack said, “So, she says I’m lying.”  Yup, that what the woman basically said.  And my child has always known that Carol Comeau will hide the behavior of adults rather than protect children.

So, sue me.

You just gotta love certified mail…

To which, not a single one of them responded.  Not. A. Single. One.

I said this before…

and no one wanted to listen.

It made me MAD.  Yup, mad.

I mean, no one would listen…

and I wrote it down, said it again

and sent it in letters to the head honchos…and no one would listen.

Schedules for Level III IEP disappear?  No problem.  Just make up anything for the State audit showing the kids were with a certified sped teacher.  Don’t know the teacher, don’t know the kids?  Don’t know if they ever had that schedule?  No problem–just have certified people filling in the blanks when any temp could it.  Like people didn’t know the State was going to ask for schedules?  Better they disappear.

A building full of children with emotional and conduct problems and it was dangerous under the leadership of Colleen Castaneda and the AEA knew.  Marion, our building rep tried to get them involved and they ignored her.

So, I refused duty due to dangerous conditions.  And not a single person from AEA investigated my refusal.  Not a single ASD Administrator investigated the conditions in that school and the Whaley staff were hurt.  Domino effect.  Bang, bang, bang.  What a long, hard year.

So, I don’t want to come to work two weeks before all of the other district teachers.  Then you’ll be fired, she says.   Applying for Dept. Chair positions–no, ASD brought someone out of retirement to fill that spot.

Work harder.  Out of 18 teachers (some only subs) only 4 are certified in sped.  I am to supervise over 100 programs, while only being a .5 staff position.  And I refuse to put false information on the forms stating that these kids are getting daily direct instruction by a certified sped teacher.  They did not.  Colleen Castaneda state that every minute at Whaley is instruction, so if they only see a sped teacher doing lunch duty–the kids are getting direct instruction.  No, I say.  That is not instruction, that’s a sped teacher standing watch, without knowing the child’s name or IEP goals.  That makes the kids Level II not Level III.  And the administrative rep in those meetings refuses to even sign the IEP.   Vicki Race won’t sign those IEPs, so I write on the IEPs that she was present and refused to sign.

Wait, people.

This is costing ASD big bucks if they can’t get Level III money.  Discipline time.  Now, since when does a principal call the AEA rep to come to a meeting?  And the AEA rep shows up?  Of course, I was not notified of the meeting.  So, I told Debbie O. I’d meet with Jerry and Cindy, but not with Colleen Castaneda, since she didn’t follow the rules. And she is made to leave.  And in this meeting it is pointed out how one teacher sleeps in class, another teacher states that she’s regular ed teacher and shouldn’t have to do the special ed stuff, another teacher hits the panic button and is painting her toenails when we go in.  Please, people. I believe an appropriate education is not being provided due to teacher incompetence.

And Jerry states, “Gloria is usually right, she just goes about it the wrong way.”  I’ll accept that as a decent assessment, but lying–is there a right way to go about that?

Cindy Anderson must have come up with a plan.  If I am not allowed to be at the IEP meetings, I can’t sign the IEP–therefor I can’t supervise and put Level II on the paperwork.  Department Chairs are told not to discuss any students with me.  I am to churn out IEPs, while other’s attend the meetings and sign.

And someone else put Level III, even though those children did not receive daily direct instruction from certified special education teachers.  And staff got hurt and no one investigated.

And that was that.

I had set it aside,

Really, I had.

Time to move on and spread a new ripple.

Sunlight replaced with shade trees,

Cedar siding for blue aluminum.

Mountain views exchanged for a room of my own,

tucked up under the eaves, and walking out of a tree house.

Swimming upstream, forming new bonds.

Always being knocked off-center with

Demands that couldn’t be met.

I’m sick I say… I think I say

Since I could no longer think.

Lamaze breathing on the drive to work,

worse than any labor because it would not end.

and…I just stop.  Stop.  One.  Day.

I can no longer put one foot in front of the other.

I can no longer speak.

Months go by and I can begin to look again…

but what do I see?

What do I feel?

Will I learn new ways to be what I was?

The damage is done

Yet continues because the force has not been enough

to change the inertia.

The force where other children are hurt

Other families are injured.

and each classroom is an island.

And each island is either a safe island

an unsafe island.

And if you are on an unsafe island, you will not be allowed to
